Each of the Three Degrees of Creative Connections have been huge parts of my life ever since I was a child. Having been involved in drama, singing and dancing from the age of 3, alongside being a total bookworm, literature, and the performing arts industry has moulded me into the person I am today.
As an only child, I was always begging my parents to watch me perform singing and dancing routines or listen to stories I had made up in our living room, eager and ready to perform at the drop of a hat. From this, they decided to enrol me into stage school and ballet. While I was always a confident and outgoing child, it was my years in theatre school and performing on stage that really helped my confidence blossom. Fast forward 22 years and I had completed a Professional Diploma in Dance from The College of Dance, a BA in English and Drama from University College Dublin and an MA in Theatre Practice and Production from The National University of Ireland, Galway.
During my time at college I was fortunate enough to volunteer and then work professionally as a Drama and Music activity leader for Barretstown, a charity organisation for children with serious illnesses. It was during my time at Barretstown that I really saw the positive impact that drama could have on children. No matter what age, external circumstances, level of confidence or experience level, I saw children flourish and grow each week.
It is from this experience that I wanted to set up Creative Connections, a space where children and young people could learn and grow, whilst having fun at the same time. Through the mediums of Drama and Creative Writing, both personally and professionally I have experienced the profound impact that immersion in these areas can have on children and young people.
